‘Tis the season to be jolly and enjoy your community. Wilmington is a wonderful place to live all year round, but Christmas time is remarkable. It might not be a white Christmas, but that doesn’t make the holidays here any less special. Here are some events to get you in the spirit!

Watch a Christmas Show

Thalian Hall is putting on a variety of holiday-themed live theater shows. Throughout December, The Nutcracker, A Christmas Carol, A Christmas Story, and Celtic Angels Christmas all hit the stage. If live theater isn’t your thing, they’re also doing a screening of It’s a Wonderful Life. You can purchase tickets online ahead of time.

Shop Local

Christmas is the season of giving, and you can give a great gift by shopping locally while supporting your community. Downtown Wilmington has a ton of specialty stores, there’s a shop for everyone on your list. While you’re downtown, grab a hot chocolate from Java Dog and enjoy the Christmas decorations throughout the town and the Christmas tree at Market and Water Streets. Another way to shop small this year is by attending local markets. Here are just a few to find homemade and locally made gifts!

Go Ice Skating

From December 1-9, Live Oak Bank Pavilion will transform into a skating rink. Pre-registration is required for this event. You can register for 1-hour time blocks online. For just $5 a person, you can show off your skills and take the family ice skating outdoors!

Festivals

The holiday season wouldn’t be complete without a festival (or two). At the NC Aquarium at Fort Fish, the Cape Fear Festival of Trees is a display of more than 50 decorated Christmas trees. Or enjoy a water-based parade on the Intracoastal Waterway with decorated boats at the Island of Lights Christmas Flotilla on December 3 at Carolina Beach.

Happy Holidays

No matter how you spend your holiday season, spending it in Wilmington, North Carolina guarantees a beautiful season filled with the best people. From the team at Maus, Warwick, Matthews and Company, we’re wishing you a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year!
